graduation day
his friends keep asking
for my missing son

My son was missing this year from graduation too. It hit me very, very hard. Despite the disappointment, I suspect you still have your son with you to help in that direction. :-)
This is a poignant haiku, Vic. I hope a cap and gown are in your son's future, if belated.
