all night listening
under a canvas skin

I like this image but find myself rereading the haiku because I'm not quite clear about to what the word "canvas" is referring.

Hi diana

Traditionally I think tents was made of canvas.

"canvas tent: a tent made of canvas fabric."

"a heavy, closely woven fabric"

Actually we were sheltering under a polyester tent but I think the word 'canvas' is the right word.
